CHURCHES will sound their bells tomorrow in solidarity with Notre Dame.

Christ Church Cathedral has confirmed it will take part in the nationwide action, initiated by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

Its bells will sound for seven minutes from 7pm to send a message of support to the people of Paris after Monday's devastating fire in the centuries old cathedral.

Canon Dr Edmund Newey, sub dean, said: "Christ Church is proud to join countless other churches across the country in expressing our solidarity with them in prayer, and by the ringing of our bells on Thursday."

St Giles Church in Oxford will also toll its heaviest bell for seven minutes from 7pm.

John Pusey, the captain of the ringers, said it was 'in sympathy' with the Paris cathedral where fortunately the heavy bells in the two west towers seem to have suffered little or no damage in the recent fire.

St Michael's Tower in the village of Blewbury, near Didcot, has also confirmed it is taking part.
