Police in Swanley are appealing for witnesses after a man reportedly used another person’s identity to meet a 17-year-old girl in Swanley.

Officers from Kent Police were called on Saturday, April 13, after the teenager was contacted over the internet by someone she believed to be one of her friends.

She had arranged to meet said friend in Pinks Hill and, at around 8.45pm, walked to a white VW Golf and got into the passenger seat.

At this point she realised she did not know the driver and jumped out of the car.

On returning home from the , the teenager checked with the friend she thought she had been meeting, who confirmed they had not been in contact with her to arrange the meeting.

The driver in question is described as an Asian man, in his early 20s, of slim build with short black curly hair and a beard. He was described wearing a dark, long sleeved top.

Speaking on the shocking incident, Chief Inspector Nick Finnis said: "It is very important that people take care when using social media as people are not always who they say they are.

"Set your social media accounts to ‘private’ and remember that every time you update apps on your phone, they can reset your privacy settings; making your profile public.

"A stranger could check out what you post and get in contact or share your information without you knowing."

Detectives are now carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses or anybody with dashcam footage who was in the Pinks Hill area of Swanley between 8.30pm and 9pm on the night of the incident to contact them.
