Plans to bulldoze houses in Orpington in place of nearly 30 new homes have been submitted to the council.

Developer RAA Ventures have put forward the scheme for flats in land between Charterhouse Road, Saltwood Close and Winchester Road.

The site currently has five homes in it, which .’, would be demolished to make way for flats and houses.

The plans have not been welcomed by everyone, with one neighbour objecting online: “I have lived in this area for more than 60 years.

“The structure will not be in keeping with the current buildings in the immediate area.

“It will be situated on an already busy & dangerous bend in the road and close to the junction onto the A224 increasing the volume of traffic where several accidents have occurred including a recent one with a critically injured young child.”

The developers have proposed 28 new homes, mixed between one and two-bedroom flats and three bed houses.

No affordable housing has been included in the plans, with the developers saying it is not viable for the scheme to make profit.

In a planning statement, RAA Ventures said: “The absence of an affordable housing provision is appropriately justified within the accompanying Affordable Housing Statement and Viability Appraisal in accordance with the Local Plan requirement.

“The proposed layout comprises a suitably designed scheme which is of appropriate scale, design and character to integrate into the existing surrounding development whilst also ensuring no adverse impacts.”

The plans are currently being assessed by experts at the council with a decision expected in coming months.
