Cineworld in Greenwich is set to become the largest cinema in London, and yesterday got a full covering of snow.

The prank was to mark April Fool's Day and the arrival of the new 4DX screens as part of an extensive expansion of Cineworld at The O2.

Visitors exiting North Greenwich station were surprised by the unexpected snowfall during a typically mild spring day.

Snow is just one of the many effects that 4DX technology can simulate in the screening room.

4DX, available only at Cineworld in the UK, is an immersive cinematic experience which uses high-tech motion seats and special effects to stimulate all five senses.

The new auditorium will house 156 specially designed seats and will open just in time for Avengers: Endgame.

Over 2.5 million people have experienced 4DX since Cineworld brought the technology to UK audiences in 2015.

David Spence, general manager of Cineworld at The O2, said: “There are only a few weeks left until we unveil the expansion of Cineworld at The O2.

"Our newly refurbished cinema will offer customers more ways to experience film than any other cinema in London, with Superscreen, ScreenX, VIP and 4DX. It may officially be springtime, but as we were reminded today, with 4DX we can make it snow all year-round.”
