Four fire crews were a called to flat fire on Catford Hill this afternoon.
The London Fire Brigade said four fire engines and about 25 firefighters are attending the incident on the busy street after being called at 1.54pm.
The fire swept through the ground floor flat of a converted house.
According to LFB, crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Greenwich and Lee Green attended the fire as eight people left the building.
Transport for London has confirmed Catford Hill is partially closed both ways while the fire is dealt with.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
