A man whose jaw was shattered when he was viciously knocked out in a street attack in Petts Wood last year has spoken about his ordeal.

Conor Bartlett, 24, said it was "frustrating" his attacker has still not been caught after the single punch changed his life.

News Shopper:

The construction worker and scout volunteer was enjoying a night out with his girlfriend and cousin when he was brutally assaulted.

They had been in the Sovereign of the Seas pub before getting a takeaway across the road in Queensway.

Conor was punched from behind when a group of four men began hassling his girlfriend, resulting in metal plates being fixed into his jaw.

"It is very frustrating," Conor told News Shopper. "I just want to know why? Like what was the point in it.

"He is still enjoying life and I am still trying to deal with his actions."

Police have a CCTV image of the suspect, which was shared on BBC’s Crimewatch Roadshow last week.

Conor said he remembers the situation getting "a little heated" but said the trio were just keen on getting home.

However, he recalled waking up on the pavement before being taken to hospital in an Uber.

Conor lost 15 kilograms of weight and spent months being unable to eat or drink after the attack.

Pain still plagues his everyday life and regular hospital appointment are still required.

"It could take a year or two to fully recover," he said. "I had been going to the gym quite a bit before but this was obviously a big step back. I also had to take a couple of months off work."

Conor, who used to go out for a drink most Friday nights, no longer has the confidence to do so.

"I don’t really go down the pub anymore," he said. "I have only been down like six times in 10 months.

"I just don’t really wanna go back to it."

He added: "The injuries are not so bad now but my jaw is constantly aching and I’m waking up to my jaw being locked.

"I just have to get on with it. Get through the next day and the next."

Conor said the police are tracking down a few names and he is confident the man will eventually be caught.

He said it was a "horrible" thing to do and asked anyone with information to please come forward.
