Signalling problems brought more chaotic travel to South Eastern train services Tuesday morning (March 26).

Around 5.30am, South Eastern Railway (SE) reported that a signalling failure between Strood and Gravesend would cause disruption to early morning commuters and advised alternative transport arrangements.

SE said: "We have been advised of fault with the signalling system between Gravesend and Strood. It has been confirmed as a "telecoms issue"...and as a result trains have to run at a reduced speed on all lines.

"While this is ongoing, trains can only run at a maximum speed of 50mph. As a result of this delays and alterations will occur.

"Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 12:00."

SE added that all customers affected by the disruption could use their tickets on London Underground Services to complete their journeys as necessary.

Thameslink said that Transport for London (TfL) buses and underground routes were available to anyone with a ticket valid for the disrupted routes.

Meanwhile, SE provided further information on the specifics of the disruption.

SE said: "Southeastern services from Strood to London Cannon Street / London Charing Cross will start from either Dartford or Gravesend.

"A reduced Southeastern High Speed service will run between Faversham and London St Pancras International. All Southeastern High Speed services from Maidstone West have been cancelled.

"Southeastern services from the Medway Towns towards London Victoria aren't directly affected, but will experience delays as a knock-on consequence of the disruption through Strood."
