A nightclub in New Cross which has played host to the likes of Oasis is celebrating its 30th birthday this year.

The Venue, on Clifton Rise, opened in April of 1989 and in the 90s it attracted huge acts like Blur, Pulp, Suede, The Verve and Ocean Colour Scene.

Oasis had just released their debut single 'Supersonic' when they played a sell out gig in The Venue in 1994.

However, it wasn’t all about Indie music and the nightclub was famed for its comedy nights with Lee Evans and David Baddiel playing some early gigs there.

The club is still going strong and attracts crowds from surrounding areas along with students from Goldsmiths, University of London.

It now hosts seven bars over five floors, with differnt music being blasted from each level.

Richard Evans, office manager at The Venue, told News Shopper: "In the current climate of many nightclubs falling by the wayside and closing down it is important that we cherish and support the ones that we still have so happy 30th birthday to The Venue and here’s to many more years of good times."

The club will host a celebration on April 6 with giveaways including £3,000 worth of holidays along with performances from tribute act Abba Vision plus DJ’s playing anthems until late.
