A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 15-year-old boy was knifed to death outside a chicken shop last year.

Jay Hughes, 15, suffered a single stab wound to the heart during a fatal attack outside Morley’s on Randlesdown Road on November 1.

He later died in hospital and a 17-year-old teenage boy from Penge was charged with his murder one month later.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy yesterday on suspicion of Jay’s murder - the first development in this tragic case since December.

It marked the third arrest after a 21-year-old woman was questioned before being released under investigation last year.

The teenager charged with murder has not yet had his trial date confirmed.

Police said the suspect taken into custody yesterday has been released under investigation.
