A secondary school has warned parents after a possible child abduction attempt in Shortlands.

Headteacher for Bullers Wood School for Boys, Anne Gouldthorpe, wrote to parents about the incident.

A statement read: "We were informed that one of our students was approached by a man in a vehicle, whilst waiting at a bus stop in the Shortlands area of Bromley on Friday at about 5.30pm.

"The man offered the student money to get into his vehicle. The student declined and the man subsequently drove off.

"The school’s police youth offending team was notified immediately and 'stranger danger' was addressed directly in assembly, first thing yesterday morning.

"We would be grateful if you would impress upon your son the importance of keeping himself safe as well as what to do if he is approached by a stranger."

News Shopper understands a Year 7 student may have been the target and that the stranger offered him £5.

A spokesman for the Met Police said they have no report of the incident.

News Shopper has contacted Bullers Wood School for Boys for more information.

The targets were an 11-year-old boy and a teenager girl and both incidents happened in the Jail Lane area.

Bullers Wood boys' school is currently based in Westmoreland Road but it has been the subject of a long-running planning dispute over its intention to open at a new base in Chislehurst.
