A concerned mum says her daughter was left in a panic after being followed home from school on Thursday afternoon.

The mother, who wished not to be named, said her daughter, 15, left St Catherine’s Catholic School for Girls before walking into Bexleyheath with a friend.

Before getting on the B14 bus home from Clock House, the student noticed a man staring at her.

"The guy blocked her and allowed her to get on the bus in front of him," the mum said. “He sat directly behind her, didn’t touch or speak to her.

"She was very conscious of him being there. I have always told her to trust her instinct if something doesn’t feel right."

The worried teenager left the bus at her stop as late as possible, before the stranger quickly jumped off behind her.

She then slowed her walk giving him the chance to overtake.

When the man refused to leave her alone, the girl rang her mum, who was on her way back from work.

The mum said: "She was in such a panic and was just shaking and saying her eyes were going blurry."

She advised her daughter to cross the road and come back the way she came.

The man stayed on the corner of the street and just watched her.

He was described as white, bald having thick eyebrows and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

Eventually the girl made it home without the man in sight.

"The only good thing is that it highlighted a conversation," the mum said. "To be aware of your surroundings and if this ever happens again that there’s a plan."

She advised young girls to go straight into a shop if there’s any around and to 'say you think you’re being followed, and can I wait here until a parent arrives'".

The mother said her daughter is now doing fine after initially being shaken.

Police were contacted immediately, and the mum said they were "brilliant" in their response.

Her daughter now has a crime reference number and if she ever sees the man again, she is to call 999.
