There is a lot on the internet that we wouldn't ever want our children to see, but how can we keep them safe?

Parents have recently been warning others about the 'Momo challenge' on YouTube which shows children disturbing images and asks them to do dangerous things.

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to warn others of the troubling new trend.

Twisted cyberbullies have been hiding their sick 'game' in innocent videos, so what seems like an episode of Peppa Pig changes halfway through to show disturbing images.

Momo is a haunting image of a woman with horrible features and bulging eyes taken from the work of Japanese artist Midori Hayashi.

The images appear in videos and instruct the children to do menacing tasks that get worse the more they complete.

So how can you keep them safe?

- Tell them it's not real

- Keep a very close eye on what they are doing when on phones and computers. You cannot control what your children do if they are shut up in their bedrooms staring at screens all night.

- Set up device settings and parental controls.

- Delete apps such as Snapchat and Youtube off their devices.

- Make sure they know how stupid it is to get involved with viral challenges, this seems obviously but unless you tell them, they will not know.

- Report and block any inappropriate images or videos that appear to be one thing then turn out to be something very different.

- Make sure they understand that they can come to you if they see something distressing.

- Ensure that if they are not going to talk to you that they have someone to go to.
