A Bromley police officer who showed "heroic determination" while responding to an aggravated burglary has been nominated for the Met’s bravery award.

PC Luke Bowers, of the South East Dog Support Unit, entered a home in Bromley in September of last year to confront two suspects.

"I entered with my dog and I heard them going upstairs," PC Bowers said.

The officer followed them up and saw a man climbing out of a broken first-floor bedroom window.

He said: "In an attempt to pull him back into the room I took hold of his jacket.

"As I did that he jumped out of the first-floor window and his weight of that made me fall through the window too.

"I held on to him until other officers arrived. I felt some blood trickling down my arm and other officers told me I had injured it."

PC Bowers’ arm was pushed against broken glass during the struggle and he suffered a serious laceration.

However, despite heavy bleeding, he managed to detain the suspect until help arrived.

He was hospitalised for three days and has only now returned to duty, five months after the incident.

PC Bowers' said he is glad to be back out on the streets with his dog and that he was "very proud" to be recognised for his work.

You can vote for PC Bowers in the bravery category of the Met Excellence Awards here until March 4.
