An attraction in Bexley had a role to play in this year's Oscars after appearing in The Favourite.

Following Olivia Colman's Best Actress win at last night's Academy Awards, the deputy leader for Bexley Council has expressed pride at the use of Danson House for one of the film's most iconic scenes.

Danson House in Welling provides the setting for Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, when they share a mud bath in the multi-award winning movie.

Film crew dressed an area of the Palladian villa’s basement kitchen to look like a luxurious Turkish bath for Golden Globe and now Oscar winner Colman (Queen Anne) and Rachel Weisz (Sarah) to shoot the scene.

Speaking on last night's award, Cllr Peter Craske offered his congratulations to Colman on her achievement, noting the added bonus of the film for which she won her award featuring such a historic Bexley building.

"It is so great that Olivia Colman has won the Oscar and even better that it is for a film in which our fantastic Danson House features so prominently.

"We're all proud that such a prominent Bexley site was chosen to be a location for the movie. It's always been our favourite, now it officially is The Favourite."

Cllr Craske previously said the borough has seen an increase in the number of production companies wishing to film in it, much to his delight.

"We are seeing more and more TV producers and film directors wanting to film in our beautiful borough. With two Green Flag-flying parks and plenty of sites with significant historical importance, it’s hardly surprising," he said.
