A NUMBER of vehicles have been damaged following a suspected arson attack at a car garage.

Fire crews were called to Crompton Way Motors, in Crompton Way, close to the junction with Bury Road, at 1.30am.

They arrived to find ten cars had been set ablaze.

The road was closed while firefighters tackled the fire.

Martin Finch, watch manager at Bolton Central fire station, said: "There were several vehicles that were quite badly damaged and about four or five that had minimal damage due to the fire not taking hold.

"The fire had not been going that long when we got there.

"Five of the cars are definitely written off. The others only had minimal damage."

Police officers also attended the scene, and a joint investigation has now been launched.

A police presence remained in place at the garage at 9am this morning.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called to reports of vehicles on fire at a garage in Crompton Way. 10 cars were damaged.

"An investigation has been launched."
