The owner of a café in Greenwich says her businesses has been the target of a "ridiculous" burglary.

Unsuspecting customers were eating in The Plumtree Café in Greenwich High Road when chairs and tables were nicked from outside in broad daylight.

Lara Bloomberg had just arrived in Cornwall on Sunday (February 17) when she was told of the theft.

"It was a normal day and staff were busy making tea and coffee and they looked up and the tables and chairs were gone," Lara told News Shopper.

The owner said CCTV showed a man in a high-vis jacket stealing two tables and four chairs from the front of the shop.

"You just think 'oh my goodness. this is ridiculous'," Lara laughed.

She added: "The brazenness of it. He took the metal tables and chairs away and then came back for a second set and took the ashtrays.

"It is hard to stop, you have to build up so much evidence against them. The police are overstretched."

Lara took the latest mishap in her stride but admitted businesses in the area had a dedicated WhatsApp group because of burglaries.

"It is constantly going off," she said. "People are just coming into the shop and stealing. The worst thing is the charity shop next door. Anything left after work always gets stolen.

"We have to take stuff into the shop."

She added there was "absolutely no point" contacting police about the theft.

"I had the police over for the last burglary and there is just nothing they can do."

The Plumtree Café was also burgled two months ago when when somebody took just two minutes to kick the front door in and raid the till.

Asked whether she was fed-up of the frequent burglaries, Lara said she was "used to Greenwich" and is now going to replace her stolen metal goods with cheaper wooden materials.
