A man has been charged with the murder of Lewisham dad Dennis Anderson and will appear in court later today.

Jahmel Michael Riley, 24, of Lordship Lane, was charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon, the Met police said.

In a statement posted online late on Thursday (February 14), the Met added that Riley remained in custody and was due to appear before Bromley Magistrates’ Court later today, February 15.

The Met Police said: "Jahmel Michael Riley, 24 (05.08.1994), of Lordship Lane, SE22 has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been remanded to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 15 February."

As News Shopper reported earlier this week, Mr Anderson, who was 39, was attacked and fatally stabbed following an altercation in East Dulwich Grove on Sunday, February 10.

One witness at the incident said that he had been attacked after a row over cigarettes.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended, however Mr Anderson died at the scene.

Lewisham residents have paid tribute to Mr Anderson following his death, and on Wednesday members of the community created a fundraising page on the Go Fund Me website.

As of Friday morning the page had raised over £5,000, which the creators of the page said would go to Mr Anderson's immediate family ahead of his funeral.

A statement on the page posted by Friends of Dennis Anderson read: "Saying goodbye is going to be one of the hardest things we could ever imagine. Yet, as painful as it is going to be I also know we all want this day to be as special as it can be, because Dennis was so special to so many.

"I know some of you have offered to help with the costs of the day we are dreading. So, with the permission of his immediate family, we have created this page to collect any donations in one place..."
