A fried chicken shop in Penge was slammed by food hygiene inspectors after mouse droppings were found on the shelves.

Inspectors said conditions at Favorite Fried Chicken on the high street were unacceptable after a worrying visit on October 29 last year.

The fast food joint was hit with a one-star rating and told improvements were required.

The damning report said: "There was evidence of mouse droppings on the shelving and the floor of the storage room in the rear of the kitchen and also in the single storey back addition store room.

"Both areas were extremely cluttered which could easily have provided harbourage for rodents."

Bromley Council’s inspectors revisited the shop on October 31 and noted a contract was in place with a pest control company and a "considerable amount of cleaning" had been undertaken.

Staff were also criticised in the report for not washing their hands between handling raw and cooked food.

It was also noted that when they did wash their hands, it was not done so "correctly".

Concerns were also raised after the same preparation table was being used for raw meat, unwashed fruit and vegetables and ready-to-eat food.
