Despite the weather not being very nice on Friday, this weekend provided the perfect setting for the new Woolwich ferries.

The new boats were meant to be up and running at the end of last year, however, the ferries had to go through more 'extensive testing' than TfL were expecting.

Transport for London originally apologised for not knowing when the service would be going again, but there is now a limited service.

The new boats will use a high-tech mooring system which will be installed at Woolwich and North Woolwich piers.

They will be called the Ben Woollacott, after a former deckhand who died working on the ferry, and the Dame Vera Lynn, after the legendary singer from east London.

This isn't all good news though, according to TfL it cannot guarantee when the service will run at full capacity.

The ferry could close again at short notice.
