A man convicted of manslaughter after his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend fell on a knife had threatened to kill her just weeks before her death.

Police were called six times in the six months before Katrina Makunova from Lewisham was killed during a fight with Oluwaseyi Dada, 21.

In a fit of anger Dada had pushed Katrina over in the lobby of a block of flats in Camberwell where he lived.

Katrina was carrying a 19.5cm knife in her bag and it pierced the bag and stabbed her in the chest when she landed on it.

She stood up after the knife pierced her breast and chest but fell again shouting "I've been stabbed, I've been stabbed".

Prosecutor Allison Hunter QC told Southwark Crown Court the struggle happened because Dada had wanted to take back a "very expensive Versace bag".

The couple's relationship had deteriorated before her death becoming increasing "turbulent" after they split.

They met in 2016 and were in a relationship for two years, but police were called six times in the six months before Ms Makunova's death.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is currently reviewing the case.

Dada had threatened to kill the 17-year-old and her family after she had threatened to have the defendant "shot".

On July 12 last year Katrina went to flats in Camberwell where Dada "grabbed her and gave her a push".

The prosecutor said: "She fell and she got back up, then she said 'I've been stabbed, I've been stabbed.'"

Dada later said he was "concerned she had a weapon in her bag" and tried to grab it from her.

When officers arrived at the scene they found Dada doing CPR and mouth-to-mouth on his ex, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The prosecutor told the court that social media messages between Dada and Katrina showed a feud between them, with both parties making veiled threats and insulting each other.

Ms Hunter said: "Ms Makunova and the defendant had been in a relationship for almost two years.

"That relationship appears to have run its course.

"In the six months leading to her death there had been six occasions that police had been consulted as a result of rising tensions between them."

The court heard the six occasions on which the police were called because of threatening behaviour from Dada, each time afterwards Dada would try and make up with Katrina by buying her gifts.

On one occasion Dada was caught pinning Katrina down on the floor with his leg on her face.

And at another time he was heard screaming "I hate you, I swear I will kill you, if I meet anyone from your family I will kill them".

Dada pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial last month and will be sentenced later this week.

Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith described it as a "very unusual" case and said that any sentence is likely to be seen as "too low, as far as her family are concerned, and too high, as far as his family are concerned".
