A small Spanish wine bar and tapas restaurant in Brockley is planning on opening a larger restaurant in the area.

L’Oculto in Loampit Hill has signed a lease and secured its second site, this time in Brockley Road, but has started a Kickstarter campaign to cover refurbishment costs.

Translating to 'the hidden one', L’Oculto became a permanent addition to Brockley in December 2015.

It went on to win the award for 'Spain specialist of the year' at the 2018 Decanter Retailer Awards.

The owners now want to raise £50,000 to open its larger restaurant, which will replace the old Brockley Mess café.

More than £14,000 has been pledged so far.

Co-founder Teresa Holmes said: "It’s always been our dream to offer more than just a great dining experience.

"We have a strong connection with all of our producers and have always looked for ways to share our knowledge of Spanish gastronomy and viniculture with the local community.

"This new site will allow us to do just that, whilst at the same time delivering more of a restaurant-focussed menu."

Teresa added: "We’re aiming for something a little more refined yet maintaining the warmth and intimate approach that we know our customers love.

"Ultimately, L’Oculto is about working with the very best, locally sourced Spanish ingredients - that’s really what makes us unique and will continue to do so. Plus, hopefully it means we’ll be able to stop turning people away at the weekends."

L’Oculto wants to open its second restaurant as soon as possible while it continues to operate from Loampit Hill.
