A man has been jailed after he raped a woman who fell asleep on his sofa.

Mark Adams, 56, was sentenced to seven years in jail after raping the woman in his Westcombe home in May 2015.

The victim woke up in the early hours to find her trousers pulled down, her t-shirt up and Adams raping her.

He tried to persuade her to continue despite being asked to stop.

The Crown Prosecuting Service found evidence from the victim that he had raped her before he later accompanied her to a pharmacy to buy the morning after pill.

Laura Devitt, of the CPS, said: "Mark Adams denied there had been any sexual contact but our prosecution was able to prove to the jury that he had committed this rape.

"We would like to thank the victim in this case for bravely giving her evidence and we hope this conviction gives her some sense of justice for what she has suffered."

Adams was found guilty today (January 15) after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
