An elderly couple who were terrifyingly robbed at knifepoint inside their own home have been left "speechless" after a kind neighbour delivered gifts.

The wife, in her 70s, was bruised and cut after being attacked when she opened the front door to two thugs with knives on January 3.

Her husband, a man in his 80s, was not assaulted, but the knifemen took a quantity of cash before fleeing the home on The Avenue, West Wickham.

One neighbour, Sallyann West, said she wanted to do something to assure the pair that they were not alone.

"It was such an awful thing to happen," Sallyann told News Shopper.

She posted the dreadful news on a Facebook group and said she was "overwhelmed" by the outpouring of concern.

The neighbour then decided to organise a collection to buy the shaken couple some nice things.

COOK, on Westmoreland Road, donated free food and The Kent Flower Company, on the same road, also offered a free diffuser.

Sallann used money collected to buy the couple some flowers, a Marks and Spencer gift card and a hamper of goodies.

"They were absolutely speechless,” Sallyann said. "They were completely overwhelmed. They couldn’t believe the support people had shown."

She added that the people on The Avenue were brought together by the horrific robbery.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting the reference 6672/03JAN.
