Developers are eyeing up protected greenbelt land in Bexley for half a dozen new homes.

The land, in Monterey Close, already has has a bungalow, garages and a stable house on it.

Now, housing developers want to bulldoze the site and build six two-bedroom homes instead.

Stables and a “sand school” for horses would also have to make way for the new development should these plans get the green light from the council.

Bexley has a target of 1,245 homes a year, a target the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan says could be much higher.

Some neighbours have objected to the development, claiming more houses will put extra pressure on traffic and parking.

One neighbour said their property would suffer from “overlooking” should the bungalows go ahead.

The demand for new bungalows would “likely driven by older households”, according to planning documents.

“The proposal provides a type of housing suitable for older residents of the borough within an alternative setting allowing them to vacate larger homes that can be occupied by families within the borough,” the developers said.

The plans have been submitted and will be considered by the council.
