A young man from Barnehurst bravely went bald over the weekend, raising thousands for a kids' cancer charity.

Louie Chapman-Ford, 20, had been growing his hair for more than three-and-a-half years with the vision that once it hit a certain length he would shave it off and donate it to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which fashions wigs for children who lose theirs through chemotherapy.

Speaking to News Shopper, Louise told of how this topic hit close to home as his sister unfortunately passed away, aged eight, due to cancer in 2001.

"This is the main reason I'm doing it really. My mum and dad did a head shave as well during my sister's battle with cancer so it only seemed right that I do one as well.

"Raising the money for charity but also doing it in her honour are the two main things for me," he said.

After originally setting a small fundraising target of £500, Louie has seen that figure smashed with the current total standing at approximately £2,500.

On Saturday (January 12), Louie and his family held the big head shave in The Yacht, Bexleyheath, with a large crowd gathered to witness the event.

Mum Samantha Chapman-Ford expressed extreme pride and thanked her neighbours for their ongoing support.

"As I’ve said before, as parents, we couldn’t ask for a better son, and are so extremely proud of him.

"This is something which is particularly close to our family's hearts as we lost our beautiful daughter Jordan to cancer when she was eight years old.

"To say myself and his dad are proud of him is an understatement. He is a remarkable young man," she said.
