A young man from Barnehurst will be bravely going bald this weekend after raising more than £2000 for a kids cancer charity.

Louie Chapman-Ford, 20, has been growing his hair for more than three and a half years with the vision that once it hits a certain length, he would shave it off and donate it to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which fashions wigs for children who lose their's through chemotherapy.

Speaking to News Shopper, Mr Ford told of how this topic hit quite close to home as his sister unfortunately passed away, aged eight, due to cancer in 2001.

"This is the main reason I'm doing it really. My mum and dad did a head shave as well during my sister's battle with cancer so it only seemed right that I do one as well.

"Raising the money for charity but also doing it in her honour are the two main things for me," he said.

After originally setting a small target of £500 as part of the event, Mr Ford has seen that figure smashed with the current total, at the time of writing, standing at £2087.

Speaking on her son's commitment to his promise when he first started growing his hair, Samantha Chapman-Ford expressed extreme pride and thanked her neighbours for their ongoing support.

"This is something which is particularly close to our families hearts as we lost our beautiful daughter Jordan to cancer when she was 8 years old.

"To say myself and his Dad are proud of him is an understatement. He is a remarkable young man," she said.

Mr Ford will be facing the chop in The Yacht pub in Bexleyheath this Saturday from 7pm.

His online fundraiser will still be open for donations until then.
