A hairdresser claims a cup of boiling tea from McDonald's spilled over her leg and melted away a layer of skin.

WARNING: Beware if you are squeamish, there are graphic images of injury in this article.

Grace Evans, 24, from Bexleyheath, told News Shopper she received the injury after visiting the Crayford branch of the fast-food chain for drive-through breakfast on the morning of December 28.

"We were staying with my boyfriend's parents over Christmas and as we were driving home we decided to get McDonald's breakfast. With that we ordered two teas.

"He passed me the food first and then my cup of tea but the lid must have not been put on properly.

"When the first one spilled I jumped and then the other one spilled all over me as well.

"The two cups spilled over me while my boyfriend was driving so he was trying to deal with it while I was screaming my head off," she said.

Ms Evans said she had to jump into the backseat to check her leg, when she noticed a layer of skin was missing and her leg was left scalded.

Regardless of her injury, the hairdresser and beautician still went to work later that day.

However, halfway through her shift she began to notice there was still something not right about her injured leg.

"Halfway through the day I noticed the big blister and thought 'I need to go to hospital'," she said.

She was then treated at the urgent care centre at Erith Hospital for a second-degree burn.

Ms Evans said the painful ordeal has put her out of work since as she finds it too painful to stand.

"Obviously the pain itself is bad but it means I can’t drive or work. I’ve had to get money off my family as well which isn’t great.

"Having no money and having to sit at home has just been really annoying. The hospital even did my dressing wrong once which didn’t help things either," she said.

Ms Evans added: "They shouldn’t be serving tea which is that hot. Imagine it was a kid that it could have happened to."

A spokesman for McDonald's said: "The health and safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to us and we investigate any complaints thoroughly to ensure we are continuing to meet our high standards.

"We have only just been made aware of this incident by the customer, and we are now investigating and in direct contact with them."
