It's around this time of year that people begin to make or break their New Year's resolutions.

Some try to save money or spend less time on their phone, others take up exercise.

However this year, one 10-year-old girl from Erith has decided on something a little more drastic than most resolutions - cutting off her hair for charity.

Bebe Blades decided over the festive period that at the end of the month, she will donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to those who have lost theirs during chemotherapy.

In the process, she has also raised more than £500 for Cancer Research UK through an online fundraiser which is continuing to accept donations until the deed is done.

Her original target was £100.

Speaking to News Shopper, mum Charlotte expressed her pride towards her daughter's gesture and said she was shocked to see so much support coming in for her.

"I think it's incredible. It's a very Bebe thing to do.

"At first she just thought, 'what if I could get £100 as well'. She's just amazing," she said.

Mrs Blades believes her daughter may have taken inspiration for her act from her gran, who works with children suffering with cancer.

Bebe will face the chop in just a few weeks and is hoping her online appeal will raise more than £1,000 by the end of the month.
