A mother and daughter from Swanscombe have been slapped with a Criminal Behavior Order for noisy cleaning and abusive behaviour.

Shefikat Vata and daughter Anila Vata of Gunn Road were handed an order for two years ar Sevenoaks Magistrates Court on December 17.

The Court found both guilty of breaching Community Protection Notices for causing harassment, alarm and distress to residents by verbally abusing, threatening harm and undertaking cleaning activities without permission.

The Judge ruled that noisy cleaning was being undertaken late in the evening on almost a daily basis resulting in the banging of railings, while other issues included the pouring of fluids into gardens, with prior permission from other residents.

The order bans both women from undertaking any irrational cleaning related acts in Gunn Road. They are also banned from from abusive language towards any resident or visitor within 300 metres of Gunn Road flats.

The Court found that for breach of the CPN Mrs Vata is to be fined £180 and a £30 victim surcharge, while Ms Vata is to be fined £450 and a £45 victim surcharge. Furthermore, Mrs Vata has to pay £300 court costs and Ms Vata £800 court cost.

Council Leader Jeremy Kite said, “It’s reassuring to see that this sort of irrational and abusive behaviour towards residents isn’t being tolerated, and that offenders of this nature receive the necessary penalties they deserve.

"No one should have to put up with regular disturbances and plain nastiness from their neighbours and so it’s important that we’re clamping down on this sort of conduct.”

Dartford Borough Council Officers investigating the case stated that the Vatas’ anti-social behaviour had “a significant effect on the community” and “that the behaviours were specifically targeting anybody attending Gunn Road flats.
