Ale-lovers in Bromley could soon be raising a glass in a new boozer as plans emerge for a micro-pub.

Proposals to turn an ironmongery in London Road into a craft pub have been submitted to planning experts at Bromley Council.

The new boozer would specialise in ale, according to planning documents, and fill the currently empty shop on the corner before Tweedy Road.

The developers say there will be light background music but no sports or hot food – leaving punters to focus on the craft pints being served up.

Micro-pubs have grown in popularity in recent years, placing more emphasis on the drinks and conversation than loud music or entertainment.

The watering holes usually sell small brewery beers and craft pints, tending to specialise in real ale from casks. Some even ban mobile phones.

The proposed boozer in London Road would follow a recent attempt to get a license to convert a Southborough Office into a fashionable micro-pub.

The London Road application was submitted this week and is being assessed by officers at the council – a decision will be made in the new year.
