Plans to bulldoze offices in Bexleyheath for a new block of flats have been given the green light by the council.

Firstcap Investments proposed demolishing a pair of offices in Lion Road in place of five new homes.

The developers say both buildings are in a “poor state of repair”.

In their application, Firstcap said: “The existing buildings and commercial use of the site do not make a positive contribution to the environment.

“The buildings are neglected in appearance and deteriorating in condition.

“The opportunity exists to make more effective use of the land in a manner which adds to numbers and mix of housing land supply without compromising the quality of the site.”

Two separate blocks are planned, bringing five new apartments split between two two-bedroom, one three, and two one-bedroom flats.

Planners at the council approved the plans last week, subject to conditions about the levels of parking included in the proposal.

The blocks will be three storeys tall and have just three parking spaces. The developer has three years to start the development.

Bexley Council has a housing target of 446 units a year, a figure the Mayor of London has proposed to increase to 1,245 a year.
