Detectives investigating the murder of teenager Jay Sewell in Greenwich have made a seventh arrest.

The 18-year-old, who has not been named, was arrested on December 14 on suspicion of murder and taken to a south London police station for questioning.

A 16-year-old boy, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on December 12, remains in police custody.

Five other people arrested on suspicion of murder have now been released under investigation.

Detectives continue to appeal for information after Jay was fatally attacked at 9.50pm on December 11 in Alwold Crescent.

Jay and a second man, also aged 18, attended a south London hospital with stab injuries.

Jay died in hospital while the second man was treated and discharged.

Police said they are awaiting the findings of a post-mortem examination.

DCI Simon Harding, said: "We are at the very early stages of our investigation into this tragic murder. We urgently need to hear from anyone who saw what happened in Alwold Crescent.

"We have already spoken to a number of people as part of our initial enquiries, but we would like to hear from anyone who lives near the scene who saw anything that might assist our investigation to contact us.

“Did you see anyone going to and from the scene? Did you see the fight? Perhaps you saw something after the incident that in retrospect may be linked. We would urge you to get in touch right away."
