A teenager has been jailed for five years for causing the death of Shirley Connington, 75, who died in a car crash in Bromley.
Rahul Pandey, 18, of Ravensworth Road, Mottingham, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on December 13 after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A family were travelling along Main Road in Biggin Hill en route to Gatwick Airport for a family holiday in the early hours of October 2017.
A red Vauxhall Corsa, driving in the opposite direction and in excess of the 30mph speed limit, lost control on a bend and collided with their Mercedes.
The driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries, while her 76-year-old father, who was in the front seat, sustained life changing injuries.
The driver's 75-year-old mother Mrs Connington died at the scene.
PC Stephen Bates from the Roads and Transport Policing Command said: "Pandey was just 17 when he turned a happy family holiday into a tragedy.
“His irresponsible and dangerous driving caused the death of a much loved woman and left another with serious injuries.
“I hope this verdict goes some small way to helping the family move on from this awful incident."
Pandey was also disqualified from driving for six years.
