One of Bromley’s oldest and most loved attractions is back for another Christmas.

The Charter Market was started in 1205 thanks to King John who permitted a trades day every Tuesday.

Festive treats can be bought in its new location of Market Square from Thursday (December 13) until the afternoon of Christmas Eve.

This comes after the opening of Vue Cinema and Pizza Express, both part of the £90 million leisure and housing development in Bromley town centre.

Mayor Kim Botting visited the relocated market last week and was thanked by Councillor Peter Morgan.

The executive councillor for renewal, recreation and housing added: "We are enormously proud to have the unique, historic, Charter market which has been in existence since 1205.

"This way, visitors and shoppers can meander along the stalls whilst being able to easily visit the permanent shops on both sides of the stalls.

"It is an exciting time for Bromley, with improvement working ongoing and of course, both the cinema and Lidl coming to the town, demonstrating the attractive proposition Bromley is for the full range of business types."

History of the market:

It was first held at Bromley Manor before moving to Mark Square until 1933.

Highways improvements saw it switch to the Station Road car park until moving to Bromley High Street in 2012.

It has now returned to its original home in Market Sqaure.
