Concerns over a loo plonked on a road in Biggin Hill are understandable, according to Transport for London, which installed it without telling residents.

TfL has apologised and is investigating how letters failed to reach people.

It will now meet locals to discuss the feasibility of the toilet's location, where bus drivers can stop to relieve themselves.

Hundreds of objectors have signed a petition against the toilet, known as the Turdis, which is at the junction of Melody Road and Whitby Close.

The bog has already been vandalised and Bromley Council blasted TfL for its lack of transparency.

Councillor William Huntington-Thresher added: "We will continue to engage with TfL to provide them with the benefit of local knowledge and alert them to local issues.

"We remain hopeful that TfL will listen more often than at present."

TfL has listened to the criticism and a spokesman told News Shopper it hopes to meet with residents early next week.

Nick Fairholme, a director at TfL, added: "We are sorry that we did not inform all residents of our plans to install a toilet for bus drivers in Biggin Hill.

"We try to be mindful of residents when we install these important facilities but understand that there are concerns about this location.

"We have offered to meet the local community to explore the feasibility of a more suitable location, or if that is not possible to see if any changes can be made to the existing facility."

Another TfL toilet has been left in Station Square in Petts Wood despite the uproar in Biggin Hill.

TfL apologised for also not informing residents in Petts Wood and said it will hold another meeting to discuss the toilet’s future.

First-time homeowner Stephanie Willis, 33, thought the Biggin Hill loo was "photoshopped" after seeing a photo of it on Facebook.

However, when she got home from work she realised the toilet outside her home was no joke.

She said: "In the summer it will be smelly, will attract rats and criminal activity. The glass window has already been smashed."
