A worried family has sought help over fears two men are trying to lure away their cat.

It is the third time the suspects have attempted to entice the cat in Penge, according to South Norwood Animal and Rescue (SNARL).

The group is continuing its investigation into the so-called Croydon Cat Killer after the Met Police said in September its three-year case was closed.

Police said more than 400 cases had no evidence of "human involvement" and foxes were the likely culprits.

However, SNARL is now "quite concerned" over the actions of two men in Penge.

In a statement it wrote: "In the first instance, cat biscuits were used as a lure, in the second and third, the substance pictured which appears to be a type of nougat (smells of eggs and sugar) but also could be a type of cat treat, cut into small squares around 1cm squared and a very pale cream in colour."

SNARL stressed it is not clear whether this is yet linked to its cat killer case.

Member of the group, Boudicca Rising, added to News Shopper: "I think it's quite concerning due to the repeat nature of the behaviour.

"I spoke at length to the family, as it is quite easy to mistake someone's innocent love of cats for something more sinister and I've also now heard from someone else who has seen them do the same thing.

"And whatever their motives, it does seem like a lure rather than treating cats because they are cat fans."

Boudicca and her partner Tony are hoping to speak to the men soon.

A family member told News Shopper: "The stress is unbelievable. We can't afford to lose her. She is such a valid member of the family for over ten years."

The woman's daughter, who caught the suspects, added: "I was at a friend's house and as I walked home two men were there talking to the cat.

"They noticed me and said they hoped I didn't mind. I said it was fine and they walked off shortly after.

"Ten minutes later they came back again and were trying to entice her. That's really odd and this was the third time."

One is believed to be aged in his late 30s or early 40s and the other is in his 60s or 70s.
