A supermarket in Welling has been hit with a hefty fine for selling alcohol without a premises licence.

TFC Welling Ltd, in 23-31 Upper Wickham Lane, had their premises licence revoked on January 17 of this year for selling alcohol to a minor. Later, they were caught and convicted of selling alcohol without a license on two occasions.

They were also fined for opening on Easter Sunday.

The company appeared before Bexley Magistrates' Court on November 26 and were fined a whopping £11,105 which included legal costs.

Cabinet member for communities, Alex Sawyer, said: "We take our responsibilities as a licensing authority very seriously. This prosecution sends out a strong message: our officers on the street continue to be vigilant and we will prosecute anyone found to be selling alcohol without a license."

Although the business was heavily fined, it is noted that the court gave credit to the company for its early guilty plea and took into account the company director’s co-operation.
