A man was arrested yesterday after a lorry carrying a digger claw crashed into a bridge along the A20, closing off both roads and bringing traffic to a standstill.

Police have said that a 51-year-old man from Bromley was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs and dangerous driving.

He was later released pending further investigation.

Officers were called to the scene on the A20 near Swanley at 12:37pm yesterday following reports that the lorry in question had struck a bridge on the Londonbound carriage way.

No injuries were reported however both sides of the road were closed off as police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Highway officers while they attended the incident.

The road was full reopened at 8.07pm.
