Police say a potential tragedy was prevented after a man holding two large knives was spotted lurking in Charlton.
The 999 call came in around 6pm after the knifeman was seen on Woolwich Road near the junction of Victoria Way on Saturday (November 24).
Armed officers arrived before arresting the man at a nearby house for possession of an offensive weapon.
He has since been bailed and will return to the station at a later date.
