A “degraded” primary school in Kidbrooke could be on the move as plans have been submitted for a redevelopment.

Kidbrooke Park School has proposed moving to a new site east of Kellaway Road.

According to the plans, the current primary school buildings in Hargood Road are becoming “increasingly difficult and cost-prohibitive” to maintain, and an upgraded school is needed.

“The existing school is in a considerable state of disrepair. As a result it has been decided to build a new school on a nearby site and move the existing school to the new location,” the school said in its application.

“The proposed new Kidbrooke Park School on the new site would replace the existing degraded school buildings of Kidbrooke Park School.

“The current buildings on the site will be retained for educational purposes, precise details of which are currently unknown.”

The proposals include a new two-storey school building, including a special educational needs facility.

The school has also proposed a nursery, a sports hall and a games area which will be open to the community.

The school is currently rated as “good” by Ofsted, the education watchdog.

According to plans submitted to the council, the land earmarked for the new school has been disused for years.

“The need for the new school has long been recognised. This project is to be progressed as it is no longer viable to try to maintain the existing school site.

“It has been determined that the building is reaching the end of its life and is starting to develop issues which represent a potential health and safety problems.

“In addition the site is on split levels and therefore is not fully accessible.”

The new school building would hold 464 pupils, according to the plans.

Planners at Greenwich Council are currently considering the application.
