Firefighters were alerted to the outbreak shortly after 11am. Fire crews from Erith, Bexley, Plumstead, Sidcup and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
Eight shipping containers and two cars were destroyed by the fire.
One social media user posted into the Erith/North Heath News & Gossip Facebook page saying that cars are not being permitted to drive through Ray Lamb Way.
Station Manager Lee Sparks said: "While the fire is now under control, we will remain on scene throughout the afternoon.
"The area is gridlocked with traffic so we would ask motorists to try and avoid the area wherever possible, particularly Manor Way and the surrounding roads."
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
