A 21-year-old woman has been arrested three weeks after the fatal stabbing of a teenage boy in Bellingham.

Jay Hughes, 15, was murdered outside a Morley's chicken shop in Randlesdown Road on the evening of November 1.

He later died in hospital after a single stab wound to the heart.

The woman brought in on suspicion of murder is the first arrest police have made.

Detective Chris Soole said: "My team continues to work around the clock to apprehend those responsible for this callous attack, which cost a young boy his life.

"I'd urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they believe it is, to do the right thing and get in contact with us as soon as possible.”

Since the murder, teenagers have flocked to a boxing club in Catford after the chairman appealed for youngsters to join after Jay’s tragic death.
