A time capsule has been buried at Greenwich's first school to cater for all ages from nursery to sixth form.

St Mary Magdalene Church of England School is currently based in Blackheath but will be moving to the Greenwich Peninsular in June 2019.

Once complete, the new building on the corner of Millennium Way and John Harrison Way, will hold 1,600 all on one site.

Phase one has been completed at the new site comprising 4G football pitches, a multi-use games area, sports building and the main school building.

To mark this milestone, Greenwich Council leader, Dan Thorpe was joined by students to bury a time capsule.

Included in the capsule were items of today including a school tie, planner, Mr Men book, Lego bricks, a class photo and a £5 note.

Cllr Danny Thorpe said: “It was a privilege to join the pupils at their wonderful Eucharist assembly service as they celebrated being at their new school and to watch as they buried the time capsule.

"New education facilities in the borough are badly needed and the school is a most welcome contribution to the significant growth and regeneration in the area.

"It’s a stunning place to learn and, once fully complete next year, will benefit the lives of many young people in the area.”
