Ikea is looking to cut around 7,500 jobs as part of a global transformation plan that will simplify the organisation.

This will mean 350 employees in the UK will face redundancy as the Swedish home retailer tries to adapt to the "fast changing retail environment".

Javier Quinones, retail manager for Ikea in the UK and Ireland, said the company has had to make difficult decisions as it adapts.

"Co-workers are at the heart of our business and throughout this transformation we will have an ongoing dialogue on how to navigate these changes, to ensure we do this in a way in line with our values and ensuring that our co-workers feel supported," he said.

However, despite these job loses, Ikea is looking to create 11,500 jobs over the next two years, with 500 of these in Greenwich.

The new store at Millennium Way Retail Park is the UK’s newest store and is due to open in spring 2019.

Mr Quinones continued: “We’re investing in an Ikea that is here for people, whenever and wherever they need us, offering a more personal experience.

“We are still very much committed to opening a store in Greenwich next year. This will mean the creation of 500 new jobs and we will announce more plans to open city-centre touchpoints in the coming months.”
