A 12-year-old Carshalton scout has been recognised for her achievements at a prestigious awards ceremony in Kingston.

Amberley Jacobs, who is a member of the 3rd Carshalton Scouts Troop, has been praised for her commitment at the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards.

She is known for attending all the weekly meetings, camps, church parades and group fundraisings, as well as her “constant smile”.

The description reads: “Amberley always wants to learn and if she cannot work something out, like a knot, she will ask and practice until she can do it.

“When Amberley was not selected to represent the troop in a district competition, another troop from the district asked for a Scout to run their team – so she jumped at the chance.

“Despite her team being very young and inexperienced, she showed she has great leadership skills and actually scored more leadership points than all the other teams.”

The teenager contributed her £250 Jack Petchey Achievement Award grant towards a trip for her unit to a trampolining park.

It comes as the Jack Petchey Foundation recognised scouts from across south west London for their impressive achievements - in Croydon, Kingston, and Sutton.

A total of 112, aged between 11 and 25, received the prestigious medallions to go with their framed certificate on the night at the King's Centre, in Coppard Gardens, Chessington, on November 14.

There were also 12 adults who were honoured with leader awards, with the aim to praise them for their notable ways of motivating young people.

They also received a medallion alongside a framed certificate.

Scouts from the Greater London south west region have received funding of £415,516 from the Jack Petchey Foundation since it started in 2007, according to the organisation.

Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Steve Cook, said: “I am always amazed at the fine work carried out by Jack Petchey and his organisation.

“Truly remarkable. Glad to be involved and must thank you all for inviting myself and the Mayoress tonight. Thank you.”

Sir Jack Petchey CBE, who is now 93, said: “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”
