This year’s Dartford toy appeal kicks off on Saturday as people are encouraged to get involved and help give some children a Christmas to remember.

Now in its fifth year running, the appeal is run by the Dartford Deeds Not Words Foundation and asks residents to donate toys, toiletries and wrapping paper to designated drop-off locations around the area.

For this year’s appeal, the charities which support children in need and who will benefit from this generosity include Ellenor, We Are Beams, Mary’s Child, Woman’s Refuge run by Centra, Home Start and Kent Young Carers.

According to a post on the Dartford Deeds Not Words Foundation Facebook page, organisers have said that “the six local charities are excited to be able to ensure the children they work with all get a present this Christmas.

“We are grateful for every gift.”

Founder of the appeal, Kelly Grehan, said: "When I started the toy appeal 5 years ago I hoped to get enough toys for every child spending Christmas in the woman's refuge to have something to open on Christmas Day.

"The response was phenomenal and since then it has grown and grown so we now support six charities working with local children."

Stephen Oliver owns a gallery which is also acting as a designated drop-off point for the appeal.

He said:"So many people get involved and like to make a difference to other local families. It's great to be able to support the charities work this way too."

Those who wish to donate to the appeal are asked to drop-off their toys, between November 17 and December 14, to the following locations.
