Thames Water has apologised for having to extend works on a road in Petts Wood.

A huge hole appeared in Crofton Lane in August, causing weeks of diversions.

The water company closed the road on November 5 and said it would take 10 days to fill holes under the tarmac.

However, it has now said the job was "more complicated than first thought".

A spokeswoman told News Shopper: "We are partially reopening the road tomorrow (November 14) and will use temporary traffic lights to finish the remainder of the work and expect everything to be back to normal by Monday (November 19).

"This job has been more complex than first thought, so has taken longer than we anticipated.

"We’ve been working extended hours to finish the repairs as quickly as possible and are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

Chairman of the Petts Wood & District Resident’ Association, John Powell, told News Shopper last week that the works would cause "pandemonium".

He added: "It was hugely disruptive last time. It is the only route through Petts Wood.

"There is school safety issues too. I really hope the works are essential. Why couldn't it have been done during half-term?

"It has been a source of huge frustration for people. It will stop the disabled and elderly getting around."
