Britain First party leader and far-right politician Paul Golding was filmed laying a wreath at a war memorial after a ceremony marking the centenary of the First World War.

A video uploaded onto the party's YouTube channel shows the controversial leader placing a poppy wreath with the Britain First symbol beside the memorial in Dartford's Central Park before nodding his head in silence. The video then cuts to black-and-white images of soldiers fighting in trenches as music plays in the background.

In the video, Mr Golding says: "Britain First exists for one reason, to preserve and fight for the country handed down to us by our forebears.

"The millions of men and women who died in numeral wars to make sure this country remains free, sovereigned, independent and above all, British.

"Britain First is a deceleration of war against all of politicians traitors who are destroying and betraying our inheritance handed down to us by the brave soldiers, men and women, civilians who have died, sailors on the high seas, fighting on continents of the world to make sure there is a future worth living for our children and grandchildren."

The video has sparked online outrage as Labour councillor Jonathan Hawkes tweeted about it, saying: "Dartford is not home to fascists. You are not welcome in our town. You stand against everything we remembered and honoured yesterday."

Speaking to News Shopper, Cllr Hawkes explained he was "appalled" at seeing Mr Golding at the memorial and is sure the people of Dartford feel the same way.

He said: "Sunday was a wonderful day – a time for the community to come together and remember those who gave their lives for our country fighting fascism.

"Britain First do not share the values that were so proudly on display in our town yesterday. They do not represent Dartford. They stand against everything we remembered and honoured.

"My message to Paul Golding and his cronies is very clear. Take your hate away from our town – its not welcome here. Dartford is not home to fascists."

The video has received over 1,000 views on YouTube since it was uploaded.
