An image of a teenager murdered in Bellingham has been released in the hopes someone comes forward with information about his death.

Jay Hughes, 15, died from a single stab wound to the heart outside a Morley's chicken shop in Randlesdown Road on Thursday (November 1) evening.

He was pronounced dead at 8.15pm after being taken to hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole said: "I'm hoping the release of Jay's image will help to jog the memory of those in and around the Randlesdown Road area in Bellingham on the night of his murder.

"My team continues to work around the clock to apprehend those responsible for this callous attack, which cost a young boy his life.

"I'd urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they believe it is, to do the right thing and get in contact with us as soon as possible.

“I appreciate that there may be a reluctance to speak with police but I can assure you that we will treat all information given to our major incident room in the strictest of confidence. Alternatively, you could speak anonymously to Crimestoppers."
