A shaken Anerley community is coming to terms with how a young man was stabbed to death on a quiet road in broad daylight.

The 22-year-old victim was killed in Samos Road on Sunday (November 4) at around 12.30pm just two days after another fatal stabbing in Bellingham.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, have since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Roland, a young man who lives in nearby Bourdon Road with his partner and young son, spoke to News Shopper about the tragedy.

"It is horrible," he said while walking home. "I feel sorry for the family. It must be so hard for them."

Roland, who would only give his first name, has lived on the street for four years and never expected something so brutal to happen on his doorstep.

He said: "A few things have happened in Betts Park and further into Penge and Crystal Palace. But never this close.

"I literally came home yesterday and police were blocking the area. My neighbour tapped on the window and said somebody was stabbed.

"It has made me a little nervous, especially with my little boy.

"Anerley is an expensive place to live and you would expect this to be safe.

Michael Jonas, 17, was murdered almost a year ago to the day in Betts Park, 10 minutes from the crime scene.

Nobody has been prosecuted for the crime.

Sarah Armstrong, 31, was stabbed in Beckenham in 2007 and told News Shopper that Anerley needs to pull together to prevent more crime.

"I live near this murder and it is just devastating, another young like taken far too soon.

"We need to take action as a community and come together to strategise a way forward."

Sarah was stabbed in the face and arm when a gang of youths demanded her phone.

After being unable leave her home for a long time, Sarah set up SayNo2Knives and is now an anti-knife campaigner.

She said: "Anerley needs to fight back to people who think it is ok to destroy lives. We need to educate the young on knife crime.

"We can work together to make Bromley a safe place for our young. The police can’t do this alone, the community needs to help."

Labour MP for Lewisham West and Penge, Ellie Reeves, believes police resources are at “breaking point”.

She added: "The news from yesterday afternoon is so very tragic and my thoughts are with the friends and family of the young man who has lost his life.

"I implore anyone who has any information about the incident in Penge, or the incident in Bellingham on Thursday evening, to speak to the police without delay."

Councillor for Crystal Palace, Angela Wilkins, told News Shopper: "This is another sad and tragic death and our first thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim."

She added that more resources were needed for the police and said somebody out there knows "more than they are letting on" regarding Michael Jonas’ death.

Jay Hughes, 15, was stabbed to death outside a chicken shop in Randlesdown Road in Bellingham on November 1.

Any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the Anerley murder should contact police on 101 quoting CAD 3251/04 Nov.
